For over 150 years, the Chicago history museum has provided visitors and residents with the keys to the citys past, present and future. The Chicago History Museum is Chicago’s official museum on history,showcasing the accomplishments of those from the region. From galleries celebrating the life of Abraham Lincoln, who died in the city on July 16, 1871 to the artwork of the city, the museum houses Chicago’s most important collection of materials related to local history.. As well, it demonstrates to the rest of the world that Chicago has produced many significant people and pieces of history.
To guide the visitors, the museum offers tours of the area, hosted by one of the many volunteers and employees. These tours, hosted by volunteers of the museum, allow guests to get a better view of life in Chicago, as well as the history of the various important landmarks that enriches the city. These tours vary in duration, and need to be requested in well in advance so a volunteer guide can be scheduled for your visit.

The Chicago history museum was founded in 1856 and incorporated in 1857. In a rare and unfortunate incident of fire, the museum lost majority of its prized artifacts. A second fire finished the job the first fire had not, and the entire structure, as well as the collection, was rebuilt.
The Chicago History Museum underwent several redesigns to maximize space and alter the atmosphere of the museum. These improvements were done several years after the second fire, also improving the museum’s ability to resist fire damage.
